What do you do when your four-wheeled friend has finished its active life? Scrap it? Might as well recycle it. We’ve all seen car furniture in pubs and clubs but there are home-made designers who try to add some swinging era designs to their dwellings.

Adrian Johnson, an architect at Sullivan O’Connor Architects has excelled by combining recycled cars with… erm… fridges. You can learn more about his urban art on Fridgecouches, where he has showcased some of his best designs. This is as green as it gets – it is very expensive and resource-consuming to recycle fridges and cars. I couldn’t imagine I’d ever say this about a fridge, but Johnson’s furniture actually doesn’t look chunky. As you may have already guessed, Fridgecouches is a pure North American design.

Another interesting design is being sold in the UK by Drinkstuff. It is less of a green project because it is using faux leather and resin replica tyres. I mean, what’s wrong with rubber? The price for this design wonder stands at £1600. If you’re good with tools, you can pick up a wrecked VolksWagen Beetle for a couple of hundred of quid and make a recycled car sofa yourself. Recycled car furniture is definitely underestimated. With thousands of cars going to scrap every day, there’s huge potential. metal furniture is nothing unusual, so why not cars?
