When it comes to renovating your living room there are tons of easy and creative DIY projects that you can use to make the place not only look brand new but also look great.

If you’re looking to completely change the atmosphere of your living room, painting is a great idea. Simply by changing the colours of two of your living room walls you can completely update the feel of the room and give it a quirky feel that’s completely unique. Try to use colours that naturally offset the main colour scheme of the room to give it a blended feel.

When you’re painting the walls you can easily use some of that paint to also update the fixtures or furnishings. Painting some of your bookshelves or end tables can make it feel like you’ve gotten entirely new furniture and it will look great with the newly updated walls.

Accessories are an amazing way of updating your living room without doing a lot of work and what isn’t already found in your house can be bought inexpensively or made by you. Rocking chair cushions don’t need to stay just on the chair – they’re great accessories to throw in the corners of your mantle or to place on the back of your couch. They can be used just like throw pillows and they’ll look quite unique.

If you’re looking for something a little out of the box, try getting small mattresses and stacking them to use for a living room centerpiece or an impromptu chair in the corner that fits about two people. While they make mattresses with patterns and coverings, you can easily fix your own with a cheap pair of bed sheets or window treatments. Stay inside your colour scheme but be creative with it and choose more than one colour or use striped or argyle patterns to give it a little bit of a pop.

If your walls are looking a little barren, see what you have lying around the house that could potentially be tacked up there. Feathers are an extremely popular feature on walls these days and they’re relatively inexpensive, especially if you buy them in bulk. You could also try dried flowers or certain types of leaves to give the walls a little more of a full look.

If you can’t or don’t want to tack things on the walls, they make quite a few different types of decals that can be pasted on walls. Most of them can be taken down and reapplied several times before they no longer work, which means you can try them on one wall and if you don’t like it, you can move them. Stencils are also an option if you’d prefer to paint your own designs.

The advantage of using stencils and decals rather than paintings or other types of hanging adornments is that you’re going to get much more of a unique look this way. It’s a great way for giving your living room a great look while keeping it personalized to you and your family.

DIY projects don’t need to be difficult and they do a lot to make a living room look brand new, especially after they’re all tied together. Choose a theme or idea that you’re looking to convey with your new furnishings and see what you can do yourself to achieve them. Simply by changing the paint or revamping the furniture, you can make a huge difference.
