The unusual Lammas community is working for a couple of years now. Their aim is to build a low impact eco village near Glandwr in North Pembrokeshire. It recently gained a long awaited planning consent and the job can start. There is another bit of good news concerning Lammas eco village. They have won a huge grant – £350,000 for building a community centre in the middle of the village. It is how the UK government is encouraging new community projects that aim at reducing carbon emission.

Lammas will go back to a completely natural lifestyle where inhabitants source their own water, food and craft, provide themselves with energy, well, basically – 100% off the grid and no more electricity bills. What a life!

You can become a Lammas shareholder if you’re interested in taking part in a project like this. Even if you don’t live there, the hands-on experience means that the next similar projects will come about easier. And some experts predict that in next 5 years similar eco villages will spring up one by one. There is plenty of unused land in the UK.

  1. This is a great idea, I’d love to live in an eco village. I think right now looking after the environment and changing the way we live is one of the most important things we can do and the idea of a community working towards the same goal sounds idea, like it would make it easier for everyone.

  2. i am very interested in eco living and would be interested in hearing from others who are,at the minute i am renting a run of the mill house and have children at school. i have to stay where i am until the children have finished school around june 2017 or 15 depending on staying on to do extra exams.
anyone else interested in getting a piece of land in a few years and living eco, building houses and living as non carbon as possible?
