The Number of Buildings to Double

According to Kevin Matthews, Editor in Chief of the Architecture Week, half of the buildings the US would have 25 years from now, have yet to be built. It might sound rather optimistic after the slowdown and the global recession. After all, many builders have gone bust. However, considering the current birth rate and the wast number of people heading to cities from rural regions, it sounds about right. The big home building companies have started buying land again in large quantities. Obviously they know what they’re doing. It is not long before another real estate boom will start. Builders and designers have a huge responsibility. If the houses we build are not sustainable, this real estate boom will invite an environmental disaster with it.
