House to Catch The Sky

A new fresh idea for people building on a limited-size plot with neighbours looking on from each side. This wonderful little home has been conceived by Japanese architect bureau Tezuka.

Due to the location, only two sides could have the windows. It was not enough, hence this great idea – placing a lightbox in the middle of the building to capture more daylight. It creates a wonderful ambient feel to the interior, especially, as it is technically open-plan with the livingspace flowing around the lightbox. There is no strict border among the entrance, leisure space and bedroom. But don’t think the box has been wasted – a bathroom with a skylight and a kitchenette is hidden behind the sterile white walls. It is a great way to tuck all the utility rooms away from the main living area. The space within the box has a lower ceiling to allow for the ceiling windows.

If you’re not a fan of an open-plan layout, you can bring the utility rooms out of the box and use the space for a fantastic secluded garden. Put some glass walls up instead of the white ones.

Look at the facade – did you notice the huge French door stretching from one side to another?
