Clayton Homes of Tennessee have launched new additions to their i-house modular home range. The company started to build pre-fab houses in 1934 but it was recently bought by Warren Buffet. He is confident that despite the current slump in the real estate market, there will be another boom pretty soon.
Clayton’s i-house is pretty simple, it is not offering a huge living space. The authors of this modular home project claim that the i-house is as green as you can possibly get. It is finished with VOC-free paints, bamboo flooring, sustainable siding and roofing materials. It features water saving faucets, solar panels on the roof and rainwater reuse system. It comes with Energy Star certified appliances.
The only problem I have with this high-tech house is that the two-bedroom version comes with a base price of over $100,000. I thought that modular homes were supposed to be cheaper because of the more efficient building method that is being used. Apparently, the materials are rather expensive. However, if you are keen on having a house up in weeks rather than months, eco modular homes is a great idea.
