McKay Flooring of Glasgow, Scotland has pioneered a method allowing to straighten the sides of whisky barrels. The reclaimed timber can then be used as flooring. Aparently, whisky barrels make wonderful oak floors – they have a special tint and a subtle aroma of vanilla. You can also have planks with the factory stamps and lettering.
This is great news. Usually, the old barrels ended up in reclamation yards as garden decor or even worse – in landfills. Scots are making their mark in the industry of alcoholic recyclables along with the Frenchmen who are known to be recycling wine bottle corks. Well done!
