A gorgeous industrial machinist chair by Leabank. Made in England. Solid construction made from steel tubing powder-coated in satin green, green vinyl leather seat. Adjustable height and angle. Really nice condition for a mid-century peace. There are no tears or scratches on the vinyl. Steel tubing has some patination which was left in place on purpose.
Leabank chair manufacturer was based in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire and they were among the first manufacturers to take a scientific approach to making office chairs. Important things like natural posture and reduction of fatigue were considered an important factor in welbeing and increase in productivity. Leabank Chairs raised the issue of incorrect seating and made lots of improvements gaining several worldwide patterns in industrial seating and machinist chairs.
Leabank workchairs were designed to support each individual worker comfortable and in correct relation to the work to be performed. At the peak of the production – mid 1950s – there were very few offices and workshops that didn’t have Leabank workchairs or industrial machinist chairs. These British made chairs were popular amongst typists, secretaries, draughtsmen and factory workers.
Although this industrial chair is more than 60 years old, it’s much more comfortable than the modern office chairs. You can adjust the height and the backrest.
