Description
A stunning piece of authentic late Art Deco tallboy perfect for a gentleman’s bedroom. The tallboy wardrobe consists of four large and one small hand crafted drawers with each one having superb dovetail jointing.
Also a wardrobe door on one side revealing a bottom section for shoes, top section with 3 brass hooks for clothes hangers. The inside of the wardrobe door features a belt hanger, a makers mark reading “JS Ltd Glasgow – for furniture as it should be” and a little detail making it so wonderfully vintage – a metal container for your camphor tablets – keeps the moths away from your tweed trousers!
Each drawer front has there two original metal pull handles with floral motif. The wardrobe door has a single handle and a working key. At the top of this piece of furniture there is an opening section with a mirror and three sections for your cufflinks, detachable collars and neckties.
This is a wonderful authentic piece representing the Glaswegian Art Deco movement. Covered in high quality golden walnut veneer. For its 80 year age the tallboy is in a great condition only displaying minor surface marks.
The gents tallboy comes with a bit of a provenance – included is an aluminium name badge having belonged to the original owner Allan G. K. Edgar who is likely to have been a civil servant. This badge looks like it has come off a uniform. Although Mr Edgar was not a celebrity, this is a little interesting detail that breathes more life into this lovely piece of Art Deco furniture.
