Think Inside the Box
Think Inside the Box
I just came across this impressive green rebuilding project. Jeremy Levine Design has completed this double-storey extension to a conventional single-story dwelling in order to convert it to a green home.

The Red Box’s green features include: recycled lumber & sustainably harvested lumber, solar chimney, mobile sun screens, recycled glass tiles, passive daylighting and passive cooling in addition to a clever drought tolerant landscaping.

The green project defies the laws of gravity by achieving a visual impression as if the Red Box was suspended on top of the slatted wood screens. The recycled wood screens slide across the main façade on a steel rail operating a clever system of passive daylighting. You can variate the sunlight, either harnessing it or limiting it depending on whether it is hot or cold. This green home design project uses passive and active eco-friendly technology to minimize the disruption of its environment.

The Red Box has an exquisite interior design, it houses a master bedroom suite and is mainly finished in wood planks.

I especially treasure the picture of the half-way into the build. I like to see how other people construct their wooden frames. You can learn a lot from watching different approaches.
