Japanese Shell House Saving Trees

House and a Tree
House and a Tree
This unique project by ARTechnic architecture studio from Japan is not classified as a green home mainly due to the concrete used for its dome shell.

The reason why I’m showing you this picture is to illustrate how one can work around the trees in a way that’s not intrusive to the environment and keeps the design integrity of the house.

We are often required to work on tight and crammed building sites. In many cases a site cannot be used to its full potential because of some free-growing trees. What to do if you don’t get a permission to cut it or if you don’t want to cut it out of environmental considerations?

A green home can encompass a tree making it part of its design. The wooden decking of the Japanese Shell house clearly shows that it is doable.

  1. Wow, what a beautiful house and deck. Is it not amazing what we can do when we work outside the box? This type of design/building is so respectful our our environment. . . way to go! I wish more people would follow this example instead of clearing off all the trees etc. when building a new house.
