Gas Prices Going Up in the UK

It probably won’t come as a huge surprise that the gas and electricity bills are going up. British Gas is putting the prices up by 7% but there are companies that will by 9%. Isn’t it the best time to gain a little bit of freedom from the fuel price wars and start thinking about approaching a greener lifestyle and cutting your bills?

Thinkinsulation.com is using the bad news to spread a positive message and remind about the importance of insulation. They’ve estimated that a DIY loft insulation usually pays back in less than 2 years. If the prices continue rising (I don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t), the pay-back time will soon be much shorter.

Many of you will say: “Why do I have to spend over £250 on loft insulation now in order to start saving £150 per year?” Well, insulation should last for 20 years or more. By the 3rd year you’ll be laughing at the ever rising fuel prices.

The hardest thing about embarking on an eco-home improvement project is committing to spending money right now. Eco improvements are not cheap. Scary! However, it is also about changing your way of thinking. If done properly, the majority of eco improvements will have paid back in 2 to 6 years. So, in the long term it really makes sense insulating and improving your house, especially if it concerns health issues and quality of living.
