One of his latest projects is an eco-friendly hotel Bariloche in the foothills of the Andes near the city of San Carlos de Bariloche.
It’s a wonderful elevated city that many tourists go to in order to admire its distinctive 1930s style architecture and to visit the Nahuel Huapi National Park.
Building a huge hotel in a place that one could almost called sacred, is a massive task. Sticking a large vertical structure in the middle of Andes would be nothing short of a blasphemy. No need to worry, Mario Roberto Alvarez knows his stuff, hence he’s building a hotel that will completely blend into the natural landscape. It’s like a green roof that we’ve been talking about on and off, only on a much larger scale.
The concept is based in the duality – a man-made building that becomes the mountain itself, plunged into mimicry with the nature.
To have an idea how big this eco-friendly hotel is going to be: there will be 210 hotel rooms, 236 self-contained apartments, 236 maisonettes, 3 restaurants, spa, shops and 470 parking spaces.
It’s expected that the Hilton hotel at Bariloche will open its doors in 2013.
