Eco Eye of Horus for Naomi

Now there’s one architect who has got really lucky. Only a handful of architects get to do something on a really large scale. Luis de Garrido is working on a unique eco house for Naomi Campbell. The magnificent eco house is a present from the flamboyant Russian businessman Vladimir Doronin.

It is built in Turkey on the Isla Playa de Cleopatra island. de Garrido is know for his love of unconventional shapes. Talking about unconventional – this is bordering on unbelievable – from up above the eco house looks like the Eye of Horus – an ancient Egyptian symbol.

The house is fully self-sustainable. It has a state-of-the-art sunlight management system, photovoltaic elements, rainwater harvesting system and many other green features. The semi-sphere is huge – it has 3 levels and 25 rooms. The top level is housing an indoors garden. That’s one bit that I don’t get, but hey, whatever floats your boat…

Many rich people take building to extremes and I’m rather glad to see that Mr Doronin is trying to set an example showing that luxury homes can be green. Obviously, setting up the site and building such a huge structure consumes large amount of CO2, but at least there’s no concrete and other unfriendly materials, and what’s more important – it sends the right message to other rich people.
