Don’t Sit on the Fence – Reuse Plastic Bottles

As far as the plastic bottle facts go, it’s truly amazing how much plastic we consume every year. In Britain, we use estimated 15 million plastic bottles every day! Worldwide, however, people consume around 9 billion bottles per year.

Sadly, only between 2.5 and 5% of the PET bottles are being recycled, depending on which region you look at.

Of course, recycling bottles is the best way to deal with the overproduction of plastic, or should I say the second best. Sure, how could I forget! “Reuse” is much better than “Recycle”.

Cretan pupils and their parents have taken the reuse part very seriously. This school fence is one of Crete’s most recent tourist destinations. It’s just a simple old mesh fence… with a twist.

The young recycling specialists have painstakingly gathered plastic bottles and coloured them with eco-friendly dyes. Simply pour some dye in the bottle and shake it well… messy but lots of fun. I hope they’re going to replace the caps otherwise it won’t be very nice after the rain 🙂
