On 1st of April 2015 (and it is no joke) a year passed since the feed-in-tariffs were introduced in the UK. Sceptics shouted that it would never take off and no-one would be keen on venturing into generating their own electricity.
The reality is that the scheme is going strong. It is, firstly, a great way to get people to actually try and save electricity. Also, it pays for every kWh you generate plus an export tariff for green electricity you feed back into the grid.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has just released stats covering a whole year of feed-in-tariffs in the UK.
Currently the total installed capacity is 111 MW, which might not seem much at the first glance. But let’s delve deeper into the numbers. Within a year 29,229 installations have been registered. We’re already measuring the households gone “off the grid” in tens of thousands! It’s a great result.
70% of all feed-in-tariff installations are photovoltaic elements. If you want to get your family free from energy bills, visit Energy Saving Trust to see how you can take part.
